MEGADETH's MUSTAINE: FRIEDMAN 'Served Us Very Well' But 'He Doesn't Want To Be Here'
October 12, 2005MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has distanced himself from some of his seemingly negative comments directed at the group's former guitarist, Marty Friedman.
In a posting on the band's official forum, a MEGADETH fan posed the question, "I've never seen Glen [Drover, current MEGADETH guitarist] play. Is he better than [Al] Pitrelli [ex-MEGADETH/SAVATAGE guitarist]?? We all know he's not better than Marty."
Responding to the above posting, Mustaine wrote, "We 'all' know? Yer an idiot! I know he is better than Marty, ya dummy, because he isn't wearing a kimono and Japanese thongs, playing in a pop band for some chick.
"Maybe you need to read the rules to be here, personal attacks on the band will not be tolerated."
Following a barrage of fan complaints and differening viewpoints on the band's official message board regarding Dave's comments, Mustaine wrote, "Guys, let this go. Blabbermouth is really an excellent source of info for us all. While I wished they would call the dogs off, I still recognize their hard work at keeping us all informed on the happenings in our scene.
"It is not their fault that people come in here and either don't think or don't care that a band member may read their posts, and what it does to morale when you are away from your home, and in Glen's case, his very young son.
"Marty doesn't want anything to do with MEGADETH. Get over it. He served us all very well when he was here, he rocks, but he doesn't want to be here and that door is forever closed.
"If ya don't like Glen, hey, that's cool, just go to the bitch board. That's what its there for. To the Droog that opened this can of worms, don't worry, I am used to it. And I still luv ya."
Mustaine announced at the conclusion of the band's headlining performance in Buenos Aires, Argentina Sunday night (October 9) that the group's current lineup — which includes bassist James MacDonough (ex-ICED EARTH),drummer Shawn Drover (EIDOLON) and guitarist Glen Drover (EIDOLON) — will continue to record and tour under the name MEGADETH.
MEGADETH have just completed a South American tour in support of "The System Has Failed", which came out in September 2004. The latest MEGADETH release, "Greatest Hits: Back to the Start" (Capitol),entered the Billboard chart at No. 65 and has sold 97,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
